Yongqin of the Song resided at the Qibao Cloister in Qiantang. He studied the Vinaya under Dazhi. Hearing Dazhi instruct the assembly, “In life propagate the Vinaya, in death return to Peaceful Nourishment; when one undergoes pravrajyā to learn the Path, this completes one's capable task,” he immediately set his aim on the Pure Land, with single-minded resolve that did not retreat. Daily he practiced thirty thousand recitations of the Buddha's name. He once roamed in spirit to the Pure Land, seeing various extraordinary forms of the Buddha and great beings. He said to his attendant, “Tomorrow I shall journey west.” He then assembled the crowd to practice buddhamanasikāra. At dawn, joining his palms and gazing westward, he sat cross-legged and passed away.
