Huiqian of the Jin dynasty took pravrajyā at a young age, and his observance of the precepts was rigorous and exact. During the Yixi era, he went to Jiaxiang Temple in Shanyin, mortifying his body and leading the assembly. Later, he took to his bed with illness; he directed his thoughts to Peaceful Nourishment and prayed with sincerity to Avalokiteśvara. At the northern temple there was a nun named Jingyan of mature virtue and earnest practice. At night she dreamt that Avalokiteśvara entered through the western outer city gate: radiant and wonderful in appearance, with a light outshining the sun and moon, adorned with banners, flags, canopies, and the seven jewels. The nun, astonished, bowed in veneration and asked the Mahāsattva, "Where are you going?" The response was: "I am going to Jiaxiang to welcome the Venerable Qian." Although Qian was exhausted by his illness, his spirit and expression remained as usual. His attendants all smelled an extraordinary fragrance, and he placidly passed away.
