Ma Xu of the Song was a grandson of Duke Zhongsu. When his grandfather governed Hangzhou, Repentance Master Ciyun instructed him to engage in buddhamanasikāra, and the entire family took it as their venerated practice. Xu engaged in buddhamanasikāra with supreme sincerity for twenty-five years. During the Chongning reign era, he contracted a slight illness, changed his clothes, sat down, and passed away. There was a vapor like a blue parasol that emerged from the room and rose into the sky. His family all dreamed that Xu was reborn in the highest grade.
