Zhongli Jingrong of the Song dynasty held the office of Grand Master for Court Audiences. He constantly recited the Contemplation Sūtra and practiced buddhamanasikāra unceasingly. Hanging up his official cap, he built a thatched hut beside the Eastern Garden in Yizhen. He once said: "If you do not recognize Amitābha, Amitābha is outside the Western Direction; if you do recognize Amitābha, Amitābha is right in your own home." One evening he bade the monk Miaoying recite the Chapter on Samantabhadra's Conduct and Vows, and while reverently listening with an incense stick burning, he made a mudrā with both hands and passed away.
