Wang Gu of the Song dynasty, style name Minzhong, was a native of Dongdu. He served as Vice Minister of Rites. Compassionate and humane, he loved all living things and was deeply attuned to the Chan school; he also awakened to the superiority of the Pure Land Dharma gate. He composed the three-fascicle *Collection on Pointing Directly to the Pure Land and Resolving Doubts*. Throughout his life he was diligent in buddhamanasikāra, never letting his prayer beads leave his hand. Walking, standing, sitting, and lying down, he regarded pure contemplation of the Western Direction as his Buddha-work. A monk once made a spiritual journey to the Pure Land and saw Gu there together with Ge Fan; thus there was clear verification of his rebirth.
