4.23

高義成。晉洲臨汾縣人也。家風信奉。鄉隣推挹。以咸亨四年二月。於洪洞縣賢劫寺。請華嚴經。於家內塔中。轉讀日正中時忽有奇光。如日照鏡中。華於壁上。久之方歇。次第二遍光。照佛堂周於四壁。由是遠近同觀。莫不歎其感徵也。

Gao Yicheng was a native of Linfen County in Jinzhou. His family tradition was one of faith and reverence, highly esteemed by his village neighbors. In the second month of the fourth year of Xianheng, he requested the Avataṃsaka Sūtra from Bhadrakalpasi in Hongdong County. As it was being chanted within the stūpa inside his home, at high noon there was suddenly an extraordinary light, like the sun shining into a mirror, blossoming upon the wall, subsiding only after a long time. Next, for a second time, the light illuminated the Buddha hall, encircling the four walls. Because of this, those near and far watched together, and none failed to sigh in admiration at this efficacious sign.
