Prince Yanming of Anfeng and Prince Xi of Zhongshan of the Wei were both members of the imperial clan. Widely versed in antiquity and learned in literature, they both established bodhimaṇḍas, conducting fasts and lectures without interruption. Mixing aromatic juice with ink, they copied one hundred sets of the Avataṃsaka Sūtra, and one set of the Avataṃsaka Sūtra in gold characters on fine white silk. All were housed in cabinets of the five fragrances and enclosed in cases of the four precious substances. On quiet nights and auspicious occasions, they maintained pure fasts and circumambulated the path. Divine light in five colours would frequently emanate, illuminating the terraces and buildings. The assembly all beheld it together, and their resolution was doubled.
