Chan Master Lizong of Zihu Cliff in Quzhou was a man of Zhanzhou whose secular surname was Zhou. He went forth at Kaiyuan Temple in Youzhou and received full ordination in accordance with the prescribed age. Later he entered the room of Nanquan, and then reached Mount Mati in Quzhou, where he thatched a hut and lived in quiet contemplation. In the second year of the Kaicheng era of the Tang, a townsman named Weng Qiangui donated land at the foot of the mountain at Zihu to establish a cloister. In the second year of the Xiantong era, an imperial decree bestowed the name Anguo Chan Cloister.

The nun said: “I would not dare.”
The master said: “Turn left or turn right?”
The nun said: “Do not be mistaken, Upādhyāya.” The master struck her.
In the middle of the night, the master shouted in front of the monks' hall: “There's a thief!” The assembly all fled in alarm. The master went to the rear scaffold of the monks' hall, seized a monk, and shouted: “Karmadāna, I've caught him! I've caught him!”
The monk said: “It isn't me!”
The master said: “It is indeed you, you just refuse to take responsibility!”
The master had a verse instructing the assembly, which said:
