12.27

定州善崔禪師。州將王公於衙署張座請師說法。師升坐良久。謂眾曰。出來也打不出來也打。時譚空和尚出曰。崔禪聻。師曰。久立太尉珍重。便下坐。

Chan Master Shancui of Dingzhou. The prefectural commander Lord Wang arranged a seat in the government office and invited the Master to preach the Dharma. The Master ascended the seat, remained silent for a long time, and said to the assembly, "If you come forward, I strike; if you do not come forward, I also strike." At that time Upādhyāya Tankong came forward and said, "What about Chan [Master] Cui?" The Master said, "The Grand Defender has stood for a long time. Take care!" He then descended from the seat.
