12.36

滄州米倉和尚。州牧請師與寶壽和尚入廳供養。令人傳語。請二長老譚論佛法。壽曰。請師兄長老答話。師喝之。壽曰。某甲尚未借問何便行喝師曰。猶欠少在。壽却與一喝。

Upādhyāya Micang of Cangzhou. The prefect invited the Master and Upādhyāya Baoshou into the administrative hall for an offering. He sent an attendant to convey the request: 'We invite the two elders to discuss the Buddha Dharma.' Baoshou said, "I invite my senior elder brother to answer." The Master gave a shout. Baoshou said, "I have not yet asked a question; why do you shout right away?" The Master said, "Something is still lacking." Baoshou gave a shout in return.
