13.13

洪州幽谷山法滿禪師。僧問。如何是道。師良久曰。會麼。僧曰。學人不會。師曰。話道語下無聲。舉揚奧旨丁寧。禪要如今會取。不須別後消停。

Chan Master Faman of Mount Yougu in Hong Prefecture. A monk asked, "What is the Way?"
The Master paused for a good while, and then said, "Do you understand?"
The monk said, "I do not understand."
The Master said:
"When speaking of the Way, there is no sound beneath the words;
Proclaiming the profound purport with meticulous care.
The essential points of Chan must be understood right now;
There is no need to deliberate after we part."
