16.38

鄆州四禪和尚。僧問。古人有請不背。今請和尚入井還去也無。師曰。深深無別源。飲者消諸。患問如何是和尚家風。師曰。會得底人意。須知月色寒。

The Upādhyāya of Sixian in Yunzhou. A monk asked, 'The ancients did not turn their backs on an invitation. Now I invite the upādhyāya to enter the well—will you still go?' The Master said, 'Deep, deep, with no separate source; those who drink from it extinguish all afflictions.'
He asked, 'What is the upādhyāya's house style?' The Master said, 'One who understands the other's mind must know that the moonlight is cold.'
