16.40

袁州盤龍山可文禪師。僧問。亡僧遷化向什麼處去也。師曰。石牛沿江路。日裏夜明燈。問如何是佛。師曰。癡兒捨父逃。師後居上藍院。

Chan Master Kewen of Mount Panlong in Yuanzhou. A monk asked, "When a deceased monk passes away, where does he go?" The Master said, "A stone ox along the river path; a bright lamp at night in broad daylight." He asked, "What is the Buddha?" The Master said, "A foolish child abandons his father and flees." The Master later resided at Shanglan Monastery.
