17.13

台州幽棲道幽禪師。鏡清問。如何是少父。師曰。無標的。曰無標的以為少父耶。師曰。有什麼過。曰只如少父作麼生。師曰。道者是什麼心行。問如何是佛。師曰。汝不信是眾生。曰學人大信。師曰。若作勝解即受群邪。師將示滅。有僧問曰。和尚百年後向什麼處去。師曰。迢然迢然。言訖坐亡。

Chan Master Daoyou of Youqi in Taizhou. Jingqing asked, “What is the young father?” The Master said, “No target.” Jingqing said, “With no target, do you take that to be the young father?” The Master said, “What fault is there?” Jingqing said, “Just as it is, what is the young father like?” The Master said, “Practitioner, what kind of mental activity is that?” A monk asked, “What is the Buddha?” The Master said, “You do not believe that you are a sentient being.” The monk said, “Your student has great faith.” The Master said, “If you form a notion of superiority, you will receive all kinds of demons.” When the Master was about to demonstrate extinction, a monk asked, “After a hundred years, where will the Upādhyāya go?” The Master said, “Far, far away; far, far away.” Having spoken, he passed away sitting upright.
