19.15

越州諸暨縣越山師鼐號鑒真禪師。初參雪峯而染指。後因閩王請於清風樓齋。坐久。舉目忽覩日光。豁然頓曉。而有偈曰。

Chan Master Shinao, titled Jianzhen, of Mount Yue in Zhuji County, Yuezhou, first visited Xuefeng and dipped his fingers [into the Dharma]. Later, when invited by the King of Min to a vegetarian feast at the Qingfeng Pavilion, he sat for a long time. Raising his eyes, he suddenly saw the sunlight and was instantly and completely enlightened. He composed a verse:
