19.29

福州永泰和尚。問承聞和尚見虎是否。師作虎聲。僧作打勢。師曰。遮死漢。問如何是天真佛。師乃拊掌曰。不會不會。

Upādhyāya Yongtai of Fuzhou. [A monk] asked, "I have received word that the upādhyāya has seen a tiger—is this so or not?"
The Master made the sound of a tiger. The monk made a striking gesture. The Master said, "This dead fellow!"
[A monk] asked, "What is the innately authentic Buddha?"
The Master then clapped his hands and said, "I don't understand, I don't understand!"
