19.31

建州夢筆和尚。問如何是佛。師曰。不誑汝。曰莫便是否。師曰。汝誑他。閩王請師齋。問和尚還將得筆來也無。師曰。不是稽山繡管。慚非月裏兔毫。大王既垂顧問。山僧敢不通呈。又問。如何是法王。師曰。不是夢筆家風。

Upādhyāya Mengbi of Jianzhou. [A monk] asked, "What is the Buddha?"
The Master said, "I do not deceive you."
The monk said, "Could it simply be this?"
The Master said, "You deceive him."
The King of Min invited the Master to a vegetarian feast and asked, "Has the upādhyāya also brought along the brush?"
The Master said, "It is not the embroidered tube from Mount Kuaiji; I am ashamed it is not the hare's hair in the moon. Since the great king has condescended to inquire, how would this mountain monk dare not present it?"
[The King] also asked, "What is the Dharma King?"
The Master said, "It is not the house style of Mengbi."
