19.40

漳州保福院超悟禪師（第二世住）問魚未透龍門時如何。師曰。養性深潭。曰透出時如何。師曰。才昇霄漢眾類難追。曰昇後如何。師曰。慈雲普覆潤及大千。曰還有不受潤者無。師曰有。曰如何是不受潤者。師曰直杌撐太陽。

Chan Master Chaowu of Baofu Cloister in Zhangzhou (residing as the second generation). [A monk] asked, "How is it when a fish has not yet leaped through the Dragon Gate?"
The Master said, "Nurturing its nature in the deep pool."
The monk said, "How is it when it has leaped through?"
The Master said, "Just ascending into the heavens, the multitude of kinds can hardly follow."
The monk said, "How is it after it has ascended?"
The Master said, "The clouds of compassion cover everywhere, and their moisture reaches the great chiliocosm."
The monk said, "Is there still anyone who does not receive the moisture?"
The Master said, "There is."
The monk said, "Who is the one who does not receive the moisture?"
The Master said, "A straight stump propping up the sun."
