第十七祖僧伽難提者。室羅閥城寶莊嚴王之子也。生而能言。常讚佛事。七歲即厭世樂。以偈告其父母曰。
The seventeenth patriarch was Saṃghanandi, the son of King Precious Ornament of the city of Śrāvastī. Born able to speak, he constantly praised Buddha-work. At seven years old he was already weary of worldly pleasures, and informed his parents with a gāthā, saying:
