2.22

師曰。此是妙音如來見性清淨之句。汝宜傳布後學。言訖。即於坐上以指爪𠢐面如紅蓮開。出大光明照耀四眾而人寂滅。闍夜多起塔。當新室十四年壬午歲也。

The master said, 'These are the lines of the Tathāgata Wonderful Sound regarding seeing the purity of the nature. You should spread them among later students.' Having spoken, he scratched his face with his fingernails upon his seat like a red lotus opening, emitting great radiance that illuminated the fourfold assembly, and entered extinction. Jayata erected a stūpa. This corresponded to the fourteenth year, renwu, of the Xin dynasty.
