2.48

尊者付法已。即於坐上起立。舒左右手各放光明。二十七道五色光耀。又踊身虛空。高七多羅樹。化火自焚空中舍利如雨收以建塔。當宋孝武帝大明元年丁酉歲也（正宗記云。宋孝武之世也。又注云。以達磨六十七年算之。當在宋孝武建元元年甲午也）。

Having transmitted the Dharma, the Venerable One immediately stood up from his seat, extended his left and right hands, and each emitted radiance, with twenty-seven rays of five-colored bright light. He then leaped into the void to the height of seven tāla trees, transformed into fire, and cremated himself. Relics fell like rain from the sky, which were collected to build a stūpa. It was the first year of the Daming era of Emperor Xiaowu of the Song dynasty, a dingyou year (The *Zhengzong ji* states: 'It was the reign of Emperor Xiaowu of the Song.' It also notes: 'Calculating by Bodhidharma's sixty-seven years, it should be the first year of the Jianyuan era of Emperor Xiaowu of the Song, a jiawu year').
