21.15

福州蓮華山永興祿和尚。閩王請師開堂日未陞座。先於座前立云。大王大眾聽。已有真正舉揚也。此一會總是得聞。豈有不聞者。若有不聞彼此相謾去也。方乃登座。僧問。國王請師出世。未委今日一會何似靈山。師曰。徹古傳今。問如何是和尚家風。師曰。毛頭顯沙界日月現其中。

Upādhyāya Lu of Yongxing on Mount Lianhua in Fuzhou: On the day the King of Min invited the master to open the hall, before ascending the seat, he first stood before it and said, 'Great King, great assembly, listen! There has already been a genuine proclamation. Everyone in this whole gathering has heard it. How could there be anyone who has not heard it? If anyone has not heard it, we have deceived one another!' Only then did he ascend the seat. A monk asked, 'The king of the state has invited you, master, to appear in the world. I wonder, how does today's gathering compare to Vulture Peak?' The master said, 'Penetrating antiquity, it is transmitted to the present.' [A monk] asked, 'What is the upādhyāya's house style?' The master said, 'The tip of a hair manifests sand-realms; the sun and moon appear within it.'
