21.60

福州龍山文義禪師上堂曰。若舉宗乘即院寂徑荒。若留委問更待箇什麼。還有人委麼出來驗看。若無人委莫略虛好。僧問。如何是人王。師曰。威風人盡懼。僧曰。如何是法王。師曰。一句令當行。僧曰。二王還分不分。師曰。適來道什麼。

Chan Master Wenyi of Longshan in Fuzhou ascended the hall and said, “If I set forth the ancestral vehicle, the monastery will be deserted and the paths overgrown. If I remain to await your detailed questions, what more are you waiting for? Is there anyone who understands? Come out and let us examine. If no one understands, it is better not to speak vainly.” A monk asked, “What is a king among humans?” The master said, “All people fear his imposing manner.” The monk asked, “What is the Dharma King?” The master said, “A single phrase executes the command.” The monk asked, “Are the two kings distinguished or not?” The master said, “What did you just say?”
