22.19

福州永隆院彥端禪師。師上堂。大眾雲集。師從座起作舞。謂大眾曰。會麼。眾曰不會。師曰。山僧不捨道法而現凡夫事。作麼生不會。問本自圓成。為什麼却分明晦。師曰。汝自檢責看。

Chan Master Yanduan of Yonglong Monastery in Fuzhou. The Master went up to the hall, and the assembly gathered like clouds. The Master rose from his seat and danced. He said to the assembly, 'Do you understand?' The assembly said, 'We do not understand.' The Master said, 'This mountain monk does not abandon the Dharma of the Way, yet manifests worldly deeds. How can you not understand?' [A monk] asked, 'It is originally perfect and complete; why then is there a distinction between light and dark?' The Master said, 'Examine and scrutinize yourself.'
