襄州廣德延和尚（第二世住）初謁廣德義和尚。作禮而問曰。如何是和尚深深處。曰隱身不必須巖谷。闤闠堆堆覩者希。師曰。恁麼即酌水獻華也。曰忽然雲霧靄。闍梨作麼生。師曰。采汲不虛施。曰大眾看取第二代廣德。師次踵山門聚徒開法。僧問。如何是祖師西來意。師曰。魚躍無源水鶯啼萬古松。問如何是常在底人。師曰。臘月死蛇當大路。觸著傷人不奈何。問如何是大通智勝佛時。師曰。盛夏日輪新霽後。汝莫當輝瞪目觀。曰如何是大通智勝佛後。師曰。孤輪罷照鷲峯頂。汝報巴猿莫斷腸。問如何是作得無間業。師曰。猛火然鐺煮佛喋。師因事有頌曰。

Upādhyāya Guangde Yan of Xiangzhou (dwelling as the second generation). When he first called upon Upādhyāya Guangde Yi, he bowed and asked, 'What is the Upādhyāya's deep place?' [Yi] said, 'Hiding oneself does not require cliffs and valleys; in the noisy marketplace, those who see are few.' The master said, 'In that case, I pour water and offer flowers.' [Yi] said, 'If suddenly clouds and mists gather thickly, what will the ācārya do?' The master said, 'Drawing and dipping are not done in vain.' [Yi] said, 'Assembly, look upon the second generation of Guangde.' The master subsequently succeeded to the mountain gate, gathered disciples, and opened the Dharma. A monk asked, 'What is the meaning of the Ancestral Master's coming from the West?' The master said, 'Fish leap in sourceless water; orioles sing in myriad-year-old pines.' [The monk] asked, 'What is the person who constantly abides?' The master said, 'In the twelfth month, a dead snake blocks the main road; if you touch it, it harms you and nothing can be done.' [The monk] asked, 'How was it at the time of Great Penetrating Wisdom Victory Buddha (Mahābhijñā-jñānābhibhū)?' The master said, 'In high summer, just after the sun clears the rain, you must not stare directly at the radiance.' [The monk] said, 'How is it after Great Penetrating Wisdom Victory Buddha?' The master said, 'When the solitary disc ceases to shine on Vulture Peak, do you tell the Ba apes not to be heartbroken.' [The monk] asked, 'What is it to commit avīci deeds?' The master said, 'A blazing fire heats the cauldron to boil the Buddha alive.' On account of an occasion, the master gave a verse, saying:
