穎州薦福院思禪師（曾住唐州天目山）僧問。古殿無佛時如何。師曰。梵音何來。又問。不假修證如何得成。師曰。修證即不成。

Chan Master Si of Jianfu Cloister in Yingzhou (formerly dwelling on Mount Tianmu in Tangzhou). A monk asked, 'How is it when an ancient hall has no Buddha?' The master said, 'From where does the Sanskrit chant come?' [The monk] also asked, 'Without relying on practice and realisation, how can it be attained?' The master said, 'With practice and realisation, it is not attained.'
