23.30

襄州奉國清海禪師。僧問。青青翠竹盡是真如。如何是真如。師曰。點瓦成金客聞名不見形。曰恁麼即禮謝下去也。師曰。昔時妄想至今存。問承古人云。見月休觀指歸家罷問程。如何是家。師曰。試舉話頭看。問放過即東道西說。不放過怎生道。師曰。二年同一春。

Chan Master Qinghai of Fengguo in Xiangzhou. A monk asked, ''The lush green bamboo is entirely true suchness.' What is true suchness?' The master said, 'Turning roof tiles into gold: a visitor hears the name but does not see the form.' He said, 'Then I bow in thanks and withdraw.' The master said, 'The delusion of former times still exists today.' He asked, 'An ancient master said: 'Seeing the moon, stop looking at the finger; returning home, cease asking about the road.' What is home?' The master said, 'Try raising the topic and let us see.' He asked, 'If you let it pass, then they speak of east and talk of west; if you do not let it pass, how can one speak?' The master said, 'Two years share the same spring.'
