師住明招山四十載。語句流布諸方。將欲遷化上堂告眾囑付。其夜展足問侍者曰。昔釋迦如來展開雙足放百寶光明。汝道吾今放多少。侍者曰。昔日鶴林今日和尚。師以手拂眉曰。莫孤負麼。又說偈曰。
The Master dwelt on Mount Mingzhao for forty years, and his sayings circulated throughout all quarters. When he was about to pass away, he ascended the hall, announced it to the assembly, and gave his final instructions. That night, extending his feet, he asked the attendant, "Formerly, Śākyamuni Tathāgata extended both feet and emitted the light of a hundred jewels. Tell me, how much do I emit now?" The attendant said, "Formerly the Crane Forest; today the Upādhyāya." The Master stroked his eyebrows with his hand and said, "Do not fail me!" He then spoke a gāthā, saying:
