23.54

福州羅山紹孜禪師上堂。有數僧爭出問話。師曰。但一時出來問待老僧一時答却。僧便問。學人一齊問請師一齊答。師曰得。問學人乍入叢林。祖師的的意請師直指。師曰好。

Chan Master Luoshan Shaozi of Fuzhou ascended the hall. Several monks vied to come forward and ask questions. The Master said, "Just come forward and ask all at once; wait for this old monk to answer you all at once." A monk then asked, "We students ask all together; please, Master, answer all together." The Master said, "Granted." [A monk] asked, "This student has newly entered the monastery; please, Master, directly point out the Ancestral Master's exact meaning." The Master said, "Fine."
