23.80

蘄州三角山志操禪師（第三世住）僧問。教法甚多宗歸一貫。和尚為什麼說得許多周遊者也。師曰。為爾周遊者也。曰請和尚即古即今。師以手敲繩床。

Chan Master Zhicao of Mount Sanjiao in Qizhou (third generation residing). A monk asked, “The teachings are exceedingly manifold, yet the school converges into a single continuity. Why, Upādhyāya, do you speak of so many roaming about?” The Master said, “It is for you who roam about.” The monk said, “Please, Upādhyāya, be both ancient and present.” The Master tapped the rope-bed with his hand.
