24.60

灌州羅漢和尚。僧問。如何是佛法大意。師曰。井中紅焰日裏浮漚。曰如何領會。師曰。遙指摶桑日那邊。問如何是羅漢境。師曰。地連香積水門對聖峯山。問既是羅漢為什麼却受人轉動。師曰。換却眼睛轉却髑髏。

Upādhyāya Luohan of Guanzhou. A monk asked, "What is the great meaning of the Buddha Dharma?" The Master said, "A red flame in a well, floating foam in the sun." The monk said, "How is one to comprehend it?" The Master said, "Pointing far away beyond the sun of Fusang." The monk asked, "What is the realm of Luohan?" The Master said, "The land joins Xiangji; the water-gate faces Mount Shengfeng." The monk asked, "Since it is an arhat, why does it instead let people turn and move it?" The Master said, "Swap out the eyes; turn around the skull."
