Chan Master Bianlong of Yongxi Temple on Mount Zhiti in Fuzhou was a native of Mingzhou. He went forth from household life under Chan Master Liaowu of Lingyin Temple, and subsequently received the mind seal. The Master ascended the hall and said, "The towering, magnificent jeweled mark fills empty space; the adamantine body is without destruction. Does the great assembly see it or not? If you say you see it, the substance of the true mark is fundamentally not blue, yellow, red, white, long, short, square, or round, nor is it a phenomenon of seeing, hearing, sensing, or knowing. How, then, do you explain the principle of seeing it? If you say you do not see it, it is also said, 'The towering, magnificent true mark fills empty space.' Why do you not see it?" A monk asked, "What is the transcendental path?" The Master said, "What is under your feet." [The monk] said, "In that case, it is ordinary treading." The Master said, "Do not misidentify it." [The monk] asked, "What is the firm and dense body?" The Master said, "Completely naked." [The monk] said, "In that case, it is not dense." The Master said, "What do you see?"
