26.52

溫州大寧院可弘禪師。僧問。如何是正真一路。師曰。七顛八倒。曰恁麼即法門無別去也。師曰。我知汝錯會去。問皎皎地無一絲頭時如何。師曰。話頭已墮。曰乞師指示。師曰。適來亦不虛設。問向上宗乘請師舉揚。師曰。汝問太遲生。曰恁麼即不仙陀去也。師曰。深知汝恁麼去。

Chan Master Kehong of Daning Cloister in Wenzhou. A monk asked, "What is the single path of upright truth?"
The Master said, "Seven tumbles and eight falls."
The monk said, "If so, then the Dharma gate is no different."
The Master said, "I know you have understood it wrongly."
The monk asked, "How is it when it is completely bright and clear, without a single thread?"
The Master said, "The starting point of speech has already fallen."
The monk said, "I beg the Master for instruction."
The Master said, "Just now it was not set up in vain either."
The monk asked, "Regarding the transcendental vehicle of our school, please, Master, present and proclaim it."
The Master said, "Your asking has come far too late."
The monk said, "If so, then it is not saindhava."
The Master said, "I well know that that is where you would go."
