福州長谿保明院通法大師道誠。師上堂曰。如為一人眾多亦然。珍重。僧問。如何是保明家風。師曰看。問圓音普震三等齊聞。竺土仙心請師密付。師良久。僧曰。恁麼即意馬已成於寶馬。心牛頓作於白牛。師曰。七顛八倒。曰若不然者幾招哂笑。師曰。禮拜退後。問如何是和尚西來意。師曰。我不曾到西天。曰如何是學人西來意。師曰。汝在東土多少時。

Great Master Tongfa Daocheng of Baoming Monastery in Changxi, Fuzhou. The Master went up to the hall and said: “As it is for one person, so it is for many. Take care.”
A monk asked: “What is Baoming's house style?”
The Master said: “Look.”
[The monk] asked: “The perfect sound resounds universally, heard equally by the three grades. We ask the Master to secretly transmit the immortal mind of the land of India.”
The Master remained silent for a long time.
The monk said: “If so, then the mind-horse has already become a precious horse; the mind-ox has suddenly become a white ox.”
The Master said: “Topsy-turvy!”
[The monk] said: “If not so, it would almost provoke laughter.”
The Master said: “Bow and step back.”
[The monk] asked: “What is the Upādhyāya's meaning of the coming from the West?”
The Master said: “I have never been to the Western Heavens.”
[The monk] said: “What is the student's meaning of the coming from the West?”
The Master said: “How long have you been in the Eastern Land?”
