法眼和尚問講百法論僧。百法是體用雙陳。明門是能所兼舉。座主是能法座是所。作麼生說兼舉（有老宿代云。某甲喚作箇法座。歸宗柔別云。不勞和尚如此）。

Upādhyāya Fayan asked a monk who was lecturing on the Treatise on the Hundred Dharmas, "The hundred dharmas are the dual display of substance and function. The gate of illumination encompasses both the active and the passive. The lecturer is the active; the Dharma seat is the passive. How do you explain this encompassing of both?" (An elder spoke in his place: "I call it a Dharma seat." Guizong Rou spoke alternatively: "Do not trouble the upādhyāya so.")
