The deluded body approaches the mirror and reflects an image; / the image is no different from the deluded body. / Merely wanting to discard the image and keep the body, / one does not realize the body itself is inherently void. / The body's origin is not different from the image; / one cannot have one exist and the other not. / If you wish to preserve one and abandon the other, / you will be forever estranged from the true principle. / Moreover, if you love the holy and despise the ordinary, / you will sink and float in the ocean of birth and death. / Because defilements exist on account of the mind, / when there is no-mind, where can defilements reside? / Without toiling to distinguish and grasp characteristics, / naturally the Way is attained in an instant. / While dreaming, one acts within the dream; / upon waking, the dream realm is completely absent. / Reflecting back upon the waking state and the dream, / the two inverted views are no different. / To exchange delusion for awakening and seek profit— / how does that differ from a peddling merchant? / When both movement and stillness are forgotten, there is constant tranquility; / naturally one accords with suchness. / If one says that sentient beings are different from the Buddha, / afar and distant, one is forever estranged from the Buddha. / Buddha and sentient beings are non-dual; / naturally it is ultimate without remainder.
