30.30

樂道山僧縱性多。天迴地轉任從他。閑臥孤峯無伴侶。獨唱無生一曲歌。無生歌出世樂。堪笑時人和不著。暢情樂道過殘生。張三李四渾忘却。大丈夫須氣概。莫順人情無妨礙。汝言順即是菩提。我謂從來自相背。有時憨有時癡。非我途中爭得知。特達一生常任運。野客無鄉可得歸今日山僧只遮是。元本山僧更若為。探祖機空王子。體似浮雲沒隈倚。自古長披一衲衣。曾經幾度遭寒暑。不是真不是偽。打鼓樂神施拜跪。明明一道漢江雲。青山綠水不相似。稟性成無揩改。結角羅紋不相礙。或運慈悲喜捨心。或即逢人以棒闓。慈悲恩愛落牽纏。棒打教伊破恩愛。報乎月下旅中人。若有恩情吾為改。

The mountain monk delighting in the Way lets his nature wander much. / Let heaven turn and earth spin as they will! / Idly lying on a solitary peak without companions, / alone I sing a single tune of non-arising. / The song of non-arising is the joy that transcends the world; / how laughable that people of the day cannot harmonize with it! / Gladdening the heart and delighting in the Way, I pass my remaining years, / Zhang the Third and Li the Fourth completely forgotten. / A great hero must possess spirit and mettle; / do not go along with worldly sentiment, and there will be no hindrance. / You say going along is bodhi; / I say from the start it turns against itself. / At times foolish, at times silly: / not being on my path, how could you know? / Resolute and forthright through a lifetime, always according with conditions; / a rustic wanderer has no hometown to which he can return. / Today the mountain monk is just this; / what more would the original mountain monk be? / Probing the ancestral catalyst, sons of the King of Emptiness, / our substance is like floating clouds with no place to lean. / From antiquity we have always worn a single patchwork robe, / having endured heat and cold who knows how many times. / It is not true, it is not false: / beating drums to please the spirits, offering bows and kneeling. / Clearly a single expanse of clouds over the Han River; / green mountains and emerald waters do not resemble each other. / Endowed by nature, it cannot be scraped away or altered; / corners interwoven and woven textures do not obstruct one another. / At times exercising the mind of loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity; / at times meeting someone and striking with the staff to open them up. / Loving-kindness, affection, and love fall into entanglements; / striking with the staff makes them shatter affection and love. / I proclaim to the travelers beneath the moon: / if you have affection and sentiment, I shall transform them for you.
