All say the ancient mirror has never been seen; / I lend it to the people of the time to look at once. / Before their eyes not a single fine hair is perceived; / Clear and cool light congeals into a single sheet. / Congealed into a single sheet, do not turn your face away: / Mómo making her toilet is displeased, / While Master Pān turns his head in repeated admiration. / Why so delighted? Why so sorrowful? / Beautiful and ugly—from the beginning, where was either ever real? / Just this is sinking deeper into drunkenness. / When Yajñadatta looked in the morning and fled in fear, / If you ponder it carefully, there was after all a reason. / I asked that madman why he did not pause and turn back; / Tears flowed toward me, his voice wailing in grief. / Choked with sobs, he could not bring himself to explain: / 'Your head and its reflection—how boundless and vast!' / Boundless and vast, for so long a time: / From where have the clouds of delusion dispersed? / Walking hand in hand, we climb the high terrace.
