8.44

逍遙和尚。一日師在禪床上坐。有僧鹿西問云。念念攀緣心心永寂。師云。昨日晚間也有人恁麼道。西云。道箇什麼。師云。不知。西云。請師說。師以拂子驀口打。西便出。師告大眾云。頂門上著一隻眼。

The upādhyāya of Xiaoyao: One day the Master was sitting on the meditation seat. A monk named Luxi asked, "Thought after thought climbs on conditions; mind after mind is eternally tranquil." The Master said, "Yesterday evening someone also spoke like that." Xi said, "What did he say?" The Master said, "I do not know." Xi said, "Please explain, Master." The Master struck him across the mouth with his fly-whisk. Xi then went out. The Master addressed the assembly, saying, "Set an eye upon your crown."
