溫州佛[山*(奧-釆+米)]和尚。尋常見人來。以拄杖卓地云。前佛也恁麼。後佛也恁麼。僧問。正恁麼時作麼生。師畫一圓相。僧作女人拜。師乃打之。僧問。如何是佛法大意。師云。賊也賊也。僧問。如何是異類。師敲椀云。花奴花奴喫飯來。

Upādhyāya Foaowen of Wenzhou. Ordinarily, when he saw someone coming, he would plant his staff on the ground and say, "The previous Buddhas were just like this; the subsequent Buddhas were also just like this." A monk asked, "What about when it is right like this?" The Master drew a circular figure. The monk bowed like a woman. The Master then struck him. A monk asked, "What is the great meaning of the Buddhadharma?" The Master said, "Thief! Thief!" A monk asked, "What is an anomalous species?" The Master tapped a bowl and said, "Huanu! Huanu! Come eat!"
