9.40

河中公畿和尚。僧問。如何是道如何是禪。師云。有名非大道。是非俱不禪。欲識此中意。黃葉止啼錢。

Upādhyāya Gongji of Hezhong. A monk asked, "What is the Way? What is Chan?" The master said: / "What has a name is not the Great Way; / Right and wrong are neither of them Chan. / If you wish to know the meaning within this: / Yellow leaves [used as] money to stop a child's crying."
