Having spoken the verse, she vanished in an instant. The Master said, “A demon is about to come to contest strength with me.” After a short while, wind and rain broke out violently, and heaven and earth turned dark and gloomy. The Master said, “The demon's arrival is true. I must eliminate it.” Pointing into the air, he manifested a great golden dragon whose awesome spiritual power shook the mountains. The Master remained solemn in his seat, and the demonic affairs were extinguished. After seven days, there was a tiny insect, the size of a midge, hiding beneath his seat. The Master took it with his hand, showed it to the assembly, and said, “This is what the demon transformed into, stealing to hear my Dharma.” He then released it to let it go, but the demon could not move. The Master told it, “If you only take refuge in the Three Jewels, you will immediately attain spiritual penetrations.” Thereupon it resumed its original form, bowed, and repented. The Master asked, “What is your name, and how many are your retinue?” It said, “My name is Kapimala, and I have three thousand in my retinue.” The Master said, “Exhausting your spiritual power, what can you transform?” It said, “Transforming a giant ocean is an extremely small matter for me.” The Master said, “Can you transform the nature-ocean?” It said, “What is called the nature-ocean? I have never known it.” The Master then spoke to him of the nature-ocean, saying, “The mountains, rivers, and great earth are all established relying upon it; samādhi and the six penetrations arise from this.” Kapimala, hearing these words, gave rise to faith and, together with his three thousand followers, sought tonsure. The Master then summoned five hundred arhats to confer the full precepts upon them. He further told him, “The Tathāgata's great treasury of the Dharma eye should now be entrusted to you. Listen to my verse:”
