In the second month of the eighth year of the Dahe era, when approaching death, the Master cried out, “The Dharma hall is collapsing! The Dharma hall is collapsing!”
The assembly all held up pillars to prop it up.
The Master raised his hand and said, “You do not understand my intention,” and then entered quiescent extinction.
His age was eighty-four; his monastic age was sixty.
His indoor disciple Chongxu erected a stupa at the eastern corner of the monastery. By imperial decree he was posthumously granted the title Great Master Hongdao; the stupa was called Huacheng.
