Great Master Puman of Jiufeng in Yunzhou asked a monk, “Where did you just leave?” The monk said, “Minzhong.” The Master said, “Travelling so far was not easy.” The monk said, “It was not difficult; taking a step, I arrived.” The Master said, “Is there one who does not take a step?” The monk said, “There is.” The Master said, “How could that one arrive here?” The monk had no reply. The Master said, “You cheat people to death.” A monk asked, “What is the Upādhyāya’s house style?” The Master said, “What is it right now?” The monk said, “Your student does not understand.” The Master said, “An iris flower at the crossroads.”
