Upādhyāya Taeryŏng of Silla. A monk asked, "What about when one reaches Tong Pass and then ceases?" The Master said, "It is merely a livelihood on the road." The monk said, "What is the livelihood within it?" The Master said, "Embodying it is permissible; undertaking it is not." The monk said, "Why is embodying it permissible, while undertaking it is not?" The Master said, "To what kind of person does embodiment belong?" The monk said, "What is the matter within it?" The Master said, "Not acting noble."
