Chan Master Huaguang Fan of Hengzhou. A monk asked, "When the spiritual platform is not established, is there still a way out?" The Master said, "There is." The monk said, "What is the way out?" The Master said, "Out!" [A monk] asked, "What is the meaning of [the Patriarch's] coming from the West?" The Master said, "Speak!" [A monk] asked, "What is the great meaning of the Buddha Dharma?" The Master said, "Verify!" [A monk] asked, "What was it like before Niutou met the Fourth Patriarch?" The Master said, "Free and at ease." The monk said, "What about after he met him?" The Master said, "Free and at ease." [A monk] asked, "What is the affair within the Buddha Dharma?" The Master said, "Finished."
