A monk asked: "What is the oral secret of Yungai locking the mouth?" The master said: "Pervading heaven, pervading earth." The monk said: "Then the stone person nods, and the exposed pillar claps its hands." The master said: "A bottle of pure water, an incense burner of incense." The monk said: "This is still a frog at the bottom of a well." The master said: "I have troubled the great assembly." The master regularly restricted his physical food; following the assembly at the two meal times, he merely unfolded his bowl and that was all. At times, more than a month or a year would pass, yet he neither regulated herbs nor took medicines, and it did not hinder his monastic duties. If invited, he would always accept, whereupon he would eat his fill, devoid of clingings and attachments. On the second day of the fourth month in the second year of the Zhidao era, he manifested illness and passed away. He was cremated and a stupa was built on the local mountain.
