Chan Master Congyi of Mount Tianping in Xiangzhou. A monk asked, "How does one get out of the three realms?" The Master said, "Bring the three realms here and I will let you out." A monk asked, "What is the Upādhyāya's house style?" The Master said, "The exposed ground." [A monk] asked, "What is the Buddha?" The Master said, "Not pointing to heaven and earth." [The monk] said, "Why not point to heaven and earth?" The Master said, "I alone am the honored one." [A monk] asked, "What is Tianping [the Balance] like?" The Master said, "Eight hollows and nine bumps." [A monk] asked, "The cave is deep and distant; the waters of Qingxi—how is it that those who drink do not rise or fall?" The Master said, "What more do you dream of seeing?" [A monk] asked, "The great assembly gathers like clouds; what matter do they discuss together?" The Master said, "Where the incense smoke rises, the dense array of phenomena is seen."
