Upādhyāya Fayan, on account of an ailment in his feet, was visited by a monk inquiring after his health. The Master said, "When it is not a person who comes, I cannot move; when a person arrives, I cannot move. Tell me: what words can be applied within the Buddha Dharma?" The monk said, "The upādhyāya may take joy that it has improved." The Master did not accept this. (He spoke alternatively: "The upādhyāya seems to have improved today.")
