The Dharma master expounds the Dharma exceedingly well, / yet within his mind he is not apart from defilements. / With his mouth he discusses written words to transform others, / but that only increases their birth and old age. / The true and the delusive are originally non-dual; / ordinary people abandon the delusive to seek the Way. / The fourfold assembly gathers like clouds to listen to the lecture; / from the high seat his debate on principles surges like a flood. / The southern seat and northern seat contend with one another, / while the fourfold assembly takes their words to be wonderful. / Although from their mouths they speak of sweet dew (amṛta), / inside their minds are constantly withered and dry. / Themselves having not a single penny from the start, / day and night they count others' treasures. / They are just like foolish people without wisdom, / who discard true gold to carry straw. / Not relinquishing the three poisons within their minds, / I know not when they will attain the Way.
